Leadership & Management Development
We believe that in developing managers, it's important to look beyond traditional training programs. We focus on how managers need to think and behave, as well as on the skills they need to possess as your company continues to develop.
Our Pyramid of Management Development identifies five successively higher levels of management skills needed as individuals make the transition from one managerial level to the next. Our programs focus not only on specific skill development, but also on the mindset and behavioral changes needed to implement those skills.
While many firms provide training programs, Management Systems has developed a unique management development approach that focuses not only on skill development, but also on behavioral and attitudinal change. We work with organizations to design programs that will meet the needs of managers, ranging from those who have never received formal training (or who have never before supervised people) to those with MBAs and many years of managerial experience.
We have developed a curriculum of management development skills to help improve overall managerial effectiveness. The framework for this curriculum is based on our research that answers the basic question: "Why are some managers more successful than others over the long term?"
Our management development programs improve overall management effectiveness by promoting change in managers at three specific levels:
Their Role Concept: The way individual managers think about and approach their roles.
Their Skills: specific Management Skills.
Their Management Psychology (or The Inner Game): How they manage their psychological needs, including the need for self-esteem, the need for control, and the need to be liked.
How are Management Development Programs Conducted?
Session/Program Design and Content:
Our management development sessions are designed to maximize individual participation. Each session contains case studies, exercises, and/or videos intended to help individuals apply what they are learning to their own experience and to discuss specific concerns.
Our programs are designed so that participants learn new concepts, apply/practice them, and then report back on results. This helps facilitate behavioral change, which is the overall objective of the management development process.
While the specific skill needs of each individual and organization vary, we believe the core of management development needs for managers include, but are not limited to:
- The Transition to Management Roles
- Time Management Effectiveness
- Job Related Interpersonal Skills
- Delegation Effectiveness
- Leadership Effectiveness
- Organizing One's Team: Developing Effective Job Descriptions
- Decision-Making
- Effective Meeting Management
- Surveys
The Management Assessment Program (MAPŠ)
Management Assessment Program (MAPŠ): Understanding the current skill level of your management team allows you to help the team improve in areas needed to make your transition successful. Our Management Assessment Program (MAPŠ) utilizes a series of proprietary surveys to determine what management skills employees have mastered, as well as what skills they may need to develop.
Our MAPŠ evaluates overall management effectiveness, as well as leadership, time management and delegation effectiveness. We provide managers with a written interpretation of the results and outline strengths, limitations, and recommendations for future development.
As part of the management development program, participants complete a series of four proprietary Management Assessment Surveys:
Management Effectiveness Survey: assesses the extent to which a manager has made the successful transition to his or her current role.
Leadership Effectiveness Survey: provides information on the leadership styles used by the individual and the extent to which the individual adequately focuses on "key leadership tasks."
Time Management Survey: assesses the extent to which an individual is effectively using the tools of time management.
Delegation Effectiveness Survey: provides information on the extent to which the individual effectively uses delegation as a management tool.
These surveys are intended to help each individual identify his or her management strengths and opportunities for further development. Group results are discussed and analyzed during the management development sessions. This allows each individual and the group to identify specific action steps for improving individual and team effectiveness.
What is the Train-the-Trainer Program?
ManagementSystems' unique approach to management development training can be transferred to our clients through our Train-the-Trainer and Licensing Programs. We train internal "consultants" at client firms to deliver our management development sessions.
The program and the related licensing fees allow organizations to take management development training in-house on an ongoing basis, and ensure consistent training methodology, content, and language throughout the organization.
How is the Train-the-Trainer Program conducted?
Participants in this program are expected to first attend all sessions as participants. They then receive coaching on how to deliver each module. The next step is to "team-teach" each module with one of ManagementSystems' trainers and receive feedback. Finally, ManagementSystems moves into the role of "behind the scenes" coach, and the organization then executes a licensing agreement for unlimited use of the materials.
The following modules are available:
- Management Effectiveness
- Job/Role Descriptions
- Time Management
- Delegation Effectiveness
- Workshop on Time Management and Management Effectiveness
- Leadership Effectiveness
- Decision-Making
- Meeting Effectiveness
- Interpersonal Effectiveness
- Organizational Effectiveness
- Strategic Planning
- Organizational Control
